02: Center-Point Market
Second Year, Fall Semester
Chicago, Illinois
The building features a reimagined roof structure and assembly designed to enhance
passive ventilation while introducing abundant natural light into the vendor areas. Its
thoughtful design not only supports sustainable practices but also creates an inviting
and comfortable atmosphere for visitors and vendors alike. The building’s two wings
trace the perimeter of the site, radiating from a central point. This layout strategically
guides circulation, creating a natural funnel effect that draws guests through the site.
However, this directional flow is intentionally softened by the inclusion of a central
circular grass lawn. This green space interrupts the linear path, encouraging moments
of pause and interaction while serving as a playful area for children and a relaxing spot
for visitors.
