01: Ascension Theater
Second Year, Spring Semester
St. Louis, Missouri
The building design features an atrium with a prominent opening on the south side,
symbolizing the concept of lightness in St. Louis. While the city’s divisions are
often accentuated by physical barriers, this proposal uses openness to foster unity,
transforming the space into a vibrant gathering and social hub for the community.
Positioned adjacent to the soccer stadium—a key community venue—the building
establishes a visual and conceptual dialogue with its neighbor by adopting a
complementary architectural language. To echo the stadium’s light and dynamic
aesthetic, the design incorporates two cantilevered arms extending beyond the site
boundary, creating sheltered loggias below.
