Lastly, the building should highlight the community aspect of the United States. Vernacular
homes used hearths as a spatial planning device to create spaces for groups of people to
gather. Th e building should maintain a similar strategy to create space for people. Th e
building should remain adaptable as that is what our country aspires to be, forever evolving
to meet the needs of those who call it home. Ultimately, the new U.S. pavilion should not
just be a building, but a re昀氀 ection of an ever evolving identity, a place where the American
spirit supports an optimistic view of the United States.
