The U.S. Pavilion stands as a testament to the duality of the American Identity - a way to
highlight the diverse landscape that composes the United States. From rural countryside to
roaring cities, the American people re昀氀ect the environment in rhich they stand. Similar to the
di昀昀erent cultures that can be seen across the varying geographies of the U.S. di昀昀erent forms of
architecture can be seen re昀氀ecting their environment. It is the role of the pavilion to be designed
to highlight architectural forms that compose the landscape Americans call home. The
architecture should draw inspiration from rural American vernaculars with 昀氀exible structure
and wide open spaces. It is important to highlight aspects of city life as well, architecture here
should be based on brownstone townhouses. The design should feature controlled circulation
followed by a series of intimate spaces for internal re昀氀ection.
The United States has a long history of technological innovation. As a country we have been
pioneers of the technological age, from the creation of the cotton gin to the exploration
of space. In order to highlight this, the new U.S. Pavilion at its core should integrate
systems harmoniously: blending architecture, structure, and environmental aspects into
a cohesive whole.
